GALLANT EUROPE
Concerto Copenhagen and MGK Talentlinjen in Copenhagen present André Campras' ballet opera L'Europe galante – a work in which music, dance, and drama merge.
André Campra was one of the great French opera composers between Lully and Rameau. With L’Europe galante from 1697, he created a groundbreaking work in the new genre of opéra-ballet, where lavish music, dance, and scenic images are united in living tableaux.
After the prologue, in which Venus reminds us that love is everywhere, the audience is taken to Europe's love-filled regions: from the fleeting infidelities of shepherds in France, to Spanish serenades under the moonlight, to masked balls in Venice – and on to a Turkish seraglio, where intrigue and passion unfold.
In this collaboration between Concerto Copenhagen and MGK Copenhagen, the young musicians play side by side with CoCo's musicians. The program gives the young people a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the Baroque repertoire and working methods – while at the same time bringing freshness, courage, and new perspectives to the concert.
