GALANT EUROPE

Concerto Copenhagen and MGK Talentlinjen in Copenhagen present André Campras’ ballet opera *L’Europe galante* —a work in which music, dance, and drama blend seamlessly.

André Campra was one of the great French opera composers of the period between Lully and Rameau. With *L’Europe galante* (1697), he created a groundbreaking work in the new genre of opéra-ballet, in which lavish music, dance, and scenic imagery are united in vivid tableaux.

Following the prologue, in which Venus reminds us that love is everywhere, the audience is taken on a journey through Europe’s romantic landscapes: from the fleeting romances of shepherds in France, to moonlit serenades in Spain, to masked balls in Venice—and on to a Turkish seraglio, where intrigue and passion unfold.

In this collaboration between Concerto Copenhagen and MGK Copenhagen, the young musicians perform side by side with CoCo’s musicians. The program offers the young musicians a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the Baroque repertoire and working methods—while also bringing a fresh energy, boldness, and new perspectives to the concert.
