GALLANT EUROPE

Concerto Copenhagen and MGK Talentlinjen in Copenhagen present André Campra's ballet opera L'Europe galante - a work where music, dance and drama merge.

André Campra was one of the great French opera composers between Lully and Rameau. With L'Europe galante from 1697, he created a groundbreaking work in the new genre of opéra-ballet, where sumptuous music, dance and scenic images are combined in vivid tableaux.

After the prologue, where Venus reminds us that love is everywhere, the audience is taken to the love-filled regions of Europe: from the fleeting allegiances of shepherds in France, to Spanish serenades under the moonlight, to a masked ball in Venice - and on to a Turkish seraglio where intrigues and passions unfold.

In this collaboration between Concerto Copenhagen and MGK Copenhagen, the young musicians play alongside Concerto's musicians. The program gives the young musicians a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the Baroque repertoire and working methods - while adding freshness, courage and new perspectives to the concert.
