Concerto Copenhagen in Kolding
For over 30 years, Concerto Copenhagen has been one of Europe’s leading Baroque orchestras. Based in Copenhagen, the ensemble has performed music ranging from the Baroque to the early Romantic period at concerts around the world.
Concerto Copenhagen is Denmark’s national Baroque orchestra, and from the very beginning, we have made it a priority to tour as widely across the country as possible. Now, Concerto Copenhagen is taking the next step in this journey with the aim of establishing a stronger connection with our audiences in Jutland. We have therefore launched an initiative in the Municipality of Kolding, where our ambition is to establish a regular annual concert series and to get involved in outreach projects and educational initiatives for children and young people.
Collaboration with local stakeholders
With its already rich cultural and musical life, Kolding Municipality is the perfect place. There is also a unique cultural heritage that resonates with us—not least in Christiansfeld, whose musical heritage is truly one-of-a-kind from both a Danish and an international perspective. Furthermore, Koldinghus and Museum Kolding are venues where dynamic cultural outreach has been taking place for decades, and we hope to contribute to this with our specialized expertise and historical focus—together, we can tell stories about our shared Danish and European cultural heritage.
Concert Series
Until now, our regular annual concert series has taken place in Copenhagen, but last year MON was able to MON Concerto Copenhagen at a couple of venues in the municipality of Kolding. We kicked off the series at Brødremenighedens Kirkesal in November and followed up with a Christmas concert at Kristkirken in December, and in 2026 we will be presenting chamber music programs at venues including Nicolai Church and Koldinghus.

We are incredibly excited to strengthen our relationship with audiences throughout the South Region and with our core audience in Kolding.
Christiansfeld – a cultural heritage like no other
Few people may realize that the Moravian Church in Christiansfeld possesses the largest Danish collection of 18th-century music manuscripts. Over 1,600 musical works are housed in the Moravian Church’s archives, bearing witness to a musical culture unparalleled in Denmark. With music as a constant companion, the Moravian Church built a town in the 1770s where craftsmanship, religion, gender equality, and education formed a small community that aroused both admiration and astonishment throughout the rest of the kingdom. In November 2025, Concerto Copenhagen hosted an international conference in the city, featuring presentations by foreign researchers, musical walks, communal dining, and a major concert. The ambition is for this collaboration to continue in the coming years, with both large and small outreach and concert projects coming to fruition in the city of honey cakes.
Educational initiatives
A cornerstone of Concerto Copenhagen’s work is its educational initiatives, which have primarily taken shape through collaborations with educational institutions in the Copenhagen area. We have now entered into an agreement with Kulturskolen Kolding regarding similar collaborations. In November 2025, various pilot projects were launched, which will result in workshops, educational programs, and joint concerts in 2026 and beyond. Kulturskolen Kolding is a cultural anchor in the region, and it is a great pleasure for us to be able to contribute our love of Baroque music among such talented teachers and students.
Music with love, awareness, and uncompromising dedication
In 2025 and 2026, our work in the Municipality of Kolding is specifically supported by the Augustinus Foundation and Region South. In addition, Concerto Copenhagen receives regular support from the Danish Arts Foundation and the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation. We would like to thank them, as well as the foundations that support our specific projects, for their support.
