Christmas concert 2023 - sold out

Concerto Copenhagen invites you to a Christmas concert in Trinitatis Church, where the orchestra presents Christmas music from all over Europe.

This year's Christmas concert embraces our many different traditions, as well as those we have in common. In many places around the world, we have always celebrated the winter solstice in our own way. The Vikings 'drank Christmas', but today we celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, and one thing is almost always common across cultures: music.

Regardless of our histories, cultures and rituals, music is a common denominator for us and part of the Christmas celebration. Therefore, you can look forward to experiencing a slice of the feast from all over Europe when singer Marlene Metzger, Concerto Copenhagen and Lars Ulrik Mortensen take us on a Christmas journey through the Netherlands, England, France, Italy, Poland, Germany - and of course Denmark; Christian Geist was organist at Trinitatis Church from 1684 to 1686.

It's music that describes and interprets the messages of Christmas as we know it. The rural atmosphere with animals and shepherds around the stable where baby Jesus was born. It is the story of the morning star - the star over Bethlehem, the new light in the world, which figuratively speaking is of course also the baby Jesus himself - the light and hope that has now been brought into the world and how we are now moving towards brighter times. But it is also music that expresses the feelings of Jesus' mother, the Virgin Mary. She can feel that the child she has given birth to is not an ordinary child, and so she asks God for help for what is to come.

CoCo's Christmas Concert 2023 can be experienced twice on the same evening.
The first concert takes place in Trinitatis Church, where the space of the church reinforces the message of Christmas. Later that evening, we will play a selection of the same works in a more intimate concert at Musikhuset in Copenhagen with candlelight and the opportunity to buy a glass of wine before the concert, so join us as we welcome Christmas and brighter times and wish each other a Merry Christmas with our loved ones.
