Freezing Italians
When Copenhagen Opera Festival and Concerto Copenhagen take over Copenhagen's theater church, Christians Kirke, Baroque opera is brought to life in dramatic arias and icy contrasts.
With the emotional expression of the baroque and star soloist Ann Hallenberg at the forefront, the evening offers opera with nerve and presence - and a sound that goes straight to the body.
Freezing Italians celebrates the Italian composers who brought opera to the cold Nordic courts in the 1700s. Music that once made kings and queens hold their breath is now brought back to life - perhaps for the very first time since then! Hear arias by Chelleri, Scalabrini, Uttini and Sarti, and discover how opera seria - opera's most dramatic and serious genre - found its way to Scandinavia.
Under the direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Concerto Copenhagen fills the beautiful church space with glowing baroque tones and musical energy during this year's Copenhagen Opera Festival.
