Women in Baroque music

Music written by and for women. Concerto Copenhagen invites you to discover the stories and music of women from the Baroque era to the present day!

It is impossible not to notice that the history of classical music is primarily dominated by male artists. This is primarily because, for long periods of time, it was considered absolutely inappropriate for women to appear as artists in public. As a result, their music was often performed only in private settings and known only to a select few.

But that doesn’t mean female artists haven’t played a role or had an impact on the history of music! Even though they weren’t always recognized by the public, or are people we remember today, many of them played a significant role in shaping the course of history through their music and personalities.

Concerto Copenhagen and Annette Skov explore the stories and music created by women, as well as music written for women, from the Baroque era to the present day.
