Kaleidoscope

Dance and Baroque – like you’ve never experienced it before

Two of Denmark’s most powerful artistic forces come together when the Chamber Ballet and Concerto Copenhagen present *Kaleidoscope*—a brand-new full-length performance in which Baroque music and modern ballet merge into an intense and sensory universe.

For the first time, dance takes center stage in the Concert Hall at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Here, award-winning choreographers Sebastian Kloborg and Tobias Praetorius create new works set to the vibrant, colorful sounds of Baroque music—performed by Concerto Copenhagen, a world-class Baroque ensemble.

Music becomes dance, and dance becomes music.
Drawing on the music of Georg Muffat, H.I.F. Biber, Antonio Vivaldi, and Claudio Monteverdi, Kloborg and Praetorius explore how the forms, contrasts, and emotions of the Baroque era can be brought to life through modern movement.

Each choreographer creates an original work, and together with Concerto Copenhagen, they reveal new layers in the music: depth, detail, and drama—shaped by the energy and immediacy of dance.

Behind the scenes
Tobias Praetorius talks about his creative process: “It is a great honor to have the opportunity to create a new ballet for Kammerballetten—and to do so in collaboration with Concerto Copenhagen. For me, Kammerballetten represents a very special encounter between dance and music—a space where both art forms can unfold with clarity and intensity. Here, both movement and sound are allowed to stand on their own, while at the same time merging into a shared expression. Music becomes dance, and dance becomes music. With my new work, I want to explore precisely this interplay—to let dance and music grow together into a whole, where the shared breath between body and sound can emerge.”

Sebastian Kloborg reveals his work *Live On Tape*: “*Live On Tape* is a declaration of love for live music—for its performance, creation, and sharing. The historic Radio House plays itself as characters in and around the orchestra struggle to hold on to the present moment of music and the body—a moment that is constantly shifting and can quickly slip through one’s fingers. For who is left when the notes fade away? Us or them?”

A New Encounter Between Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Art
The collaboration between Kammerballetten and Concerto Copenhagen stems from a shared curiosity and a desire to challenge the traditions of both Baroque music and ballet. The performance is designed for both seasoned audiences and new visitors seeking an intense, vibrant, and unique artistic experience.

In addition to the two world premieres, the program features “Self-Portrait” by Paul Lightfoot—a contemporary masterpiece created for the Chamber Ballet in 2021, with music by Alexander McKenzie.
