Freezing Italians
When the Copenhagen Opera Festival and Concerto Copenhagen take over Copenhagen’s theater church, Christians Kirke, Baroque opera comes to life through dramatic arias and stark contrasts.
With the Baroque’s emotionally charged style and star soloist Ann Hallenberg at the helm, the evening promises opera full of energy and immediacy—and a sound that resonates deep within.
"Freezing Italians" pays tribute to the Italian composers who brought opera to the cold Nordic courts in the 18th century. Music that once left kings and queens breathless is now being brought back to life—perhaps for the very first time since then! Hear arias by Chelleri, Scalabrini, Uttini, and Sarti, and discover how opera seria—opera’s most dramatic and serious genre—found its way to Scandinavia.
Under the direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Concerto Copenhagen will fill the beautiful church interior with vibrant Baroque melodies and musical exuberance during this year’s Copenhagen Opera Festival.
