Voices of Time with Emma Kirkby & Marc Mauillon
Experience some of the greatest voices in the world of Baroque music: Emma Kirkby and Marc Mauillon in an intimate concert with Concerto Copenhagen, conducted by Lars Ulrik Mortensen.
The concert will take place on October 12 in one of Denmark's most beautiful Baroque churches, Frederiksborg Castle Church. With its gilded angels and virtuoso wood carvings, the castle church provides the ideal setting for the concert.
The meeting between baroque and modern times
This afternoon's concert offers a varied program with works from the early baroque period and newly composed works from our time. Experience the reunion between Emma Kirkby and Lars Ulrik Mortensen in a mad song by John Blow and Buxtehude's heartfelt cantata Herr, Wenn Ich nur Dich hab. Marc Mauillon takes us on a journey through France's rich musical tradition with songs by Henri Du Mont, Michel Lambert, and Honoré d'Ambruis.
Concerto Copenhagen is one of the ensembles that specialises in performing music with knowledge of historical instruments and approaches to music. When they put their bows to the strings, the music resonates with eternity and the present at the same time: a duality that the orchestra explores through new works by composer Signe Lykke written for the voices of our time. The concert will feature the premiere of two of Lykke's works: one for Emma Kirkby and Lars Ulrik Mortensen on the clavichord, and one for Marc Mauillon and organist David Bendix Nielsen on the church's historic Compenius organ.
Musicis an art form that reaches into eternityand yet exists only in the moment it is played. When we enter the castle church at Frederiksborg Castle, we can walk on the same stones and see the same gold decorations that MON seen for hundreds of years. But music—whether created in the Baroque era or today—will always be brought to life anew when it is played. That is what makes musical experiences unforgettable.
