Concerto Copenhagen & Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir reimagine Arvo Pärt's music on period instruments
Experience the meditative beauty of Arvo Pärt's music as you have never heard it before. In this extraordinary concert, Concerto Copenhagen and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir bring Pärt's compositions to life with the warm, organic sound of Baroque instruments – revealing new depths and textures in his timeless works.
Pärt's music calls for baroque instruments
Arvo Pärt's music stands in quiet opposition to post-war classical music, where tempo, volume, and grandeur often dominated. His works embrace the opposite—gentleness, silence, and repetition—qualities that naturally resonate with the transparency and intimacy of baroque instruments.
Under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste, the orchestra and choir explore the delicate balance between sound and silence that characterizes Pärt's music. The program presents selected works from the critically acclaimed new album ...Lente, which offers a fresh yet deeply authentic interpretation of his compositions.
“Playing Pärt on baroque instruments is a journey – we discover colors and nuances that make the music breathe in a new way.”
– Nikolaj de Fine Licht, director, Concerto Copenhagen
With gut strings, baroque bows, and a natural, effortless vocal style, this concert creates a very special intimate and sensual experience, where every single note hangs in the air with clarity and meaning.
A collaboration that extends beyond the stage
This concert is part of an ongoing artistic dialogue between Concerto Copenhagen and EPCC, in which they jointly challenge the boundaries of how Pärt's music can be interpreted. The collaboration extends beyond live concerts and into the recording of the new album ...Lente – a project that captures a spirit of discovery and reimagines the composer's multifaceted sound world through period instruments.
Look forward to an evening of intimate, boundary-pushing music, where old meets new – and where beauty waits to be discovered.
