The sound of Christiansfeld
On November 14, 2025, Concerto Copenhagen visits Christiansfeld and invites you to a full day of communication, fellowship, long table dinner and a lot of music.
Already at the end of the 18th century, Christiansfeld made a name for itself as an almost provocative revolutionary in pedagogy, gender equality and not least in music; aspects that are highly remarkable in comparison with the rest of Denmark during the period.
Christiansfeld is home to Denmark's largest private collection of music manuscripts from the 18th century, which needs to be thoroughly researched, published and disseminated. Both as Danish cultural heritage, but also as transnational cultural heritage, Christiansfeld's music collection is a highly interesting subject, which is why Concerto Copenhagen has set out to examine the old sheet music and perform the music as it might have sounded.
Concerto Copenhagen specializes in music from the 17th and 1770s. The orchestra's musicians play instruments from that time, and through techniques and playing style try to create the soundscape that might have sounded back then.
November 14 is the culmination of a conference where Concerto Copenhagen has invited some of the world's leading scholars of Moravian music to share perspectives on this special tradition.
