Lammermuir Festival 2024: Armonico Tributo

The cosmopolitan Muffat's harmonious tribute to Europe.
Armonico Tributo is an incredible variation of sonatas – the musical image of a varied life – and Concerto Copenhagen hopes that the music can bring every listener a little closer to a longing for peace.

Georg Muffat grew up in the border regions between France, Italy, and Germany in the 1650s, at a time marked by conflict and war in Europe. Despite the strife, Muffat remained a cosmopolitan and peace-loving man! Muffat managed to unite his German identity, his French education, and his inspiration from Italian music into a unified musical style that made him a unique composer.

"The weapons of war and its consequences are foreign to me. Notes, harmonies, and the sounds of music are my paths. And when I combine French, German, and Italian, it is not to incite war, but in a desire for harmony between people and a cautious hope for peace." – Georg Muffat

As Lars Ulrik Mortensen says: “And words like these – and I may be a little naive – are just as relevant today as they were 300 years ago when the music was written.”

Concerto Copenhagen and Lars Ulrik Mortensen recorded Muffat's work Armonico Tributo in August 2020. The album was released on February 18, 2022, and reached over 100,000 streams in less than two weeks, later receiving the Diapson d'Or 2022 award.
