FREEZING ITALIANS – Copenhagen Opera Festival
When the Copenhagen Opera Festival and Concerto Copenhagen take over Copenhagen's theater church, Christians Kirke, baroque opera comes to life in dramatic arias and stark contrasts.
With the emotional expression of the Baroque and star soloist Ann Hallenberg at the forefront, the evening offers opera with nerve and presence – and a sound that goes straight to the heart.
Freezing Italians pays tribute to the Italian composers who brought opera to the cold Nordic courts in the 18th century. Music that once made kings and queens hold their breath is now being brought back to life – perhaps for the first time since then! Listen to arias by Chelleri, Scalabrini, Uttini, and Sarti, and experience how opera seria – opera's most dramatic and serious genre – found its way to Scandinavia.
Under the direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Concerto Copenhagen will fill the beautiful church with glowing Baroque tones and musical exuberance during this year's Copenhagen Opera Festival.
