City walk: In the footsteps of Weyse

City walk in Copenhagen with musicologist Jens Hesselager in collaboration with Concerto Copenhagen, the Royal Danish Academy of Music and Golden Days on the occasion of Weyse Festival 2024.

"Ergo doesn't have to travel....
Your very humble
C.E.F. Weyse"

The composer C.E.F. Weyse is known for his beautiful melodies for songs such as I østen stiger solen op and Julen har bragt velsignet bud.
He is also known for his notorious reluctance to travel, and indeed he never left Denmark after coming to Copenhagen at the age of 15. So apart from some regular destinations to Roskilde and Vallø, his travels were on foot around old Copenhagen.

As a prelude to Concerto Copenhagen's big Weyse celebration in the concert hall on September 29, we invite you on a city walk with Weyse specialist Jens Hesselager, who will lead us in Weyse's footsteps through the streets of Copenhagen.
We'll see where the famous composer and organist lived and worked. We'll hear about Weyse's ups and downs both privately and professionally, and get a general impression of Copenhagen's cultural life in the early 1800s.

Jens Hesselager is publishing a biography of the composer on the occasion of Weyse's 250th birthday. On September 7, he will be our guide on the city walk, where we will of course sing a few of Weyse's songs, and where there will be both musical and gastronomic snacks along the way.

The city tour is organized in collaboration with GOLDEN DAYS.
