Lammermuir Festival 2024: Armonico Tributo

The Cosmopolitan Muffat’s Harmonious Tribute to Europe.
*Armonico Tributo* is an incredible collection of sonatas—a musical portrait of a varied life—and Concerto Copenhagen hopes that the music will bring every listener a little closer to a longing for peace.

Georg Muffat grew up in the border regions between France, Italy, and Germany in the 1650s, during a time marked by conflict and war in Europe. Despite the strife, Muffat remained a cosmopolitan and a lover of peace! Muffat managed to unite his German identity, his French education, and the inspiration from Italian music into a cohesive musical style that made him a unique composer.

“The weapons of war and its consequences are far removed from me. Musical notation, harmonies, and the sounds of music are my paths. And when I combine French, German, and Italian elements, it is not to incite war, but out of a desire for harmony among people and a cautious hope for peace.” – Georg Muffat

As Lars Ulrik Mortensen says: “And words like these—and perhaps I’m a bit naive—are just as relevant today as they were 300 years ago, when the music was written.”

In August 2020, Concerto Copenhagen and Lars Ulrik Mortensen recorded Muffat’s work *Armonico Tributo*. The album was released on February 18, 2022, and reached over 100,000 streams in less than two weeks, later winning the 2022 Diapason d’Or.
