CoCo at Carnegie Hall

Concerto Copenhagen presents “Armonico Tributo” at the iconic Carnegie Hall, New York

The concert will be a tribute to the musical diversity of the Baroque era, featuring works by Georg Muffat, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Georg Friedrich Handel.

The program is based on Concerto Copenhagen's critically acclaimed album Armonico Tributo from 2022, which has received great international recognition for its interpretation of Georg Muffat's music. The title is taken from Muffat's collection of five sonatas, originally composed for the 1100th anniversary of Salzburg in 1682. Muffat, born in Alsace – a region plagued by wars between superpowers – had the artistic ambition of uniting the three central musical traditions of the Baroque period.

Muffat's music is a unique fusion of Italian melodiousness, French harmony and elegance, and German structure and counterpoint.

In the preface to the work, Muffat wrote:
“The weapons of war and its consequences are foreign to me. Notes, harmonies, the sounds of music are my paths. And when I combine French, German, and Italian, it is not to incite war, but in a desire for harmony between people and a cautious hope for peace."

Concerto Copenhagen, conducted by Lars Ulrik Mortensen, will also perform works by two of the Baroque period's most beloved composers – Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Handel thus providing a comprehensive presentation of the many facets of European Baroque music.
