For more than 30-years a group of exceptional and highly specialized musicians from Denmark and the rest of Europe, led by Artistic Director Lars Ulrik Mortensen, have interpreted som of history’s greatest composers - from Monteverdi to Bach and Vivaldi, Mozart and Beethoven - side by side with Scandinavian composers and contemporary music. We challenge the traditional boundaries of Early Music, without compromise.

We create unique timbres by playing period instruments, making the music timeless. Thereby giving it a renewed relevance and attraction for humans today. By bridging past and present, we co-create the cultural heritage of the future. That’s why we refer to ourselves as an ensemble of timeless music.

INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATORS

Throughout the years we’ve collaborated with many famous international Early music artists. We’ve played Grieg with Leif Ove Andsnes , piano concertos by Beethoven and Mozart with Kristian Bezuidenhout , piano concertos by Beethoven and Mozart with Kristian and cello concertos by C.P.E. Bach and Haydn with Danish Andreas Brantelid

LARS ULRIK MORTENSEN

Lars Ulrik Mortensen is a Danish harpsichordist, conductor and visionary Artistic Director of Concerto Copenhagen since 1999. In 2007 he received the Léonie Sonning Music Prize as »one of the greatest harpsichordists and Baroque music conductors of our time.«

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

FREDERIK FROM

Virtuoso violinist Fredrik From studied at the Academy of Music in Gothenburg and at the Royal College of Music in London. He is since many years concert master of Concerto Copenhagen and Gothenburg Baroque. He has worked with early music profiles such as Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Alfredo Bernardini, Alexis Kossenko, Jordi Savall and Paul Hillier. From’s recordings include Bach’s Violin Concertos and the Brandenburg Concertos.

CONCERT MASTER

PETER SPISSKY

Peter Spissky har været koncertmester i Concerto Copenhagen siden 1999.

Han er kunstnerisk leder af Camarata Øresund, og som gæstekoncertmester og -dirigent optræder han regelmæssigt med blandt andre Barokkanerne i Oslo og Finnish Baroque Orchestra.

Spissky har en ph.d. fra Lunds Universitet og giver masterclasses i hele Skandinavien.

CONCERT MASTER

ALFREDO BERNARDINI

Alfredo Bernardini er født i Rom og uddannet oboist fra musikkonservatoriet i Haag.

Bernardini har været fast førsteoboist hos mange tidlig musik-ensembler, og han dirigerer barokorkestre fra hele Europa, Canada, Sydkorea, Japan, Israel og USA.

Bernardini bygger også tro kopier af historiske oboer og er en anerkendt forsker og skribent indenfor historiske blæseinstrumenter.

GÆSTEDIRIGENT

MAGNUS FRYKLUND

Svenske Magnus Fryklund har trods sin unge alder dirigeret et væld af skandinaviske symfoniorkestre.

Fryklund har været kapelmester ved Malmø Opera, husdirigent ved Helsingborg Symfoniorkester, og han er fra 2018-2020 dirigentassistent ved Opéra Orchestre National i Montpellier.

Fryklund har dirigeret Concerto Copenhagen på flere indspilninger.

ARMONICO TRIBUTO

What is kept trapped inside of us, if we can ever truly feel free? And how do we manage the conflict that arises from the internal chaos that is part of being human?

The video “Armonico Tributo” plays with the conflict between different states of consciousness, our sense of control and the idea of letting go. Through music and dance the connection between the tangible and the intangible is visualized to incarnate the spirit of the music. Just as the music blends different languages, the dancer takes you on a visual and emotional journey that connects to the depth of music through a cohesive movement language.

MUFAT: ARMONICO TRIBUTO

The incredible variety of the five sonatas - the musical image of a varied life. Soundtrack of a cosmopolitan, milestone of instrumental music and sonorous plea for cross-border cohesion.

Georg Muffat grew up at the border regions between France, Italy, and Germany in the 1650’s at a time of conflict and war in Europe. Despite the disputes, Muffat remained a cosmopolitan and peace lover!

CELLO CONCERTOS BY C.P.E. BACH AND HAYDN

Our new album with star cellist Andreas Brantelid and musical direction by Lars Ulrik Mortensen illustrates the fertile period in the latter half of the 18th century when the characteristics of the Baroque were gradually being replaced by the so-called galant style.
