Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno
The unique work Handel wrote in his youth has never previously been performed at the Royal Danish Theatre. Until now.
Handel was bursting with youthful ambition when, at the age of only 22, he wrote his first oratorio, Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno.
Beauty (Belezza) is surrounded by three men: Pleasure (Piacere), Time (Tempo) and Wisdom (Disinganno), who all try to convince her to follow their convictions on how life should be lived. Pleasure offers a superficial life of pampered well-being and sensuality, whereas Time and Counsel attempt to divert her attention towards more noble thoughts.
The role of Belezza will be performed by the award-winning top young English talent Mary Bevan. The eminently successful collaboration between the Royal Danish Theatre and Concerto Copenhagen has previously resulted in some of the Royal Danish Theatre’s greatest success stories, including Handel’s operas Giulio Cesare and Partenope.
Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno is performed in Italian with Danish surtitles.
Recommended from 15 years.
Co-production with Malmö Opera.
